Gearing Up for School – by Sue Jurjevic

School might be around the corner, but there's still time for summer fun!
School might be around the corner, but there’s still time for summer fun!

Summer camps are coming to an end after next week. Time sure goes by fast! We shared many memories, spent time in the sun, and learned new skills. To all our campers, parents, and staff who made this summer fun and exciting – thank you!

As everyone prepares to go back to school, I wanted to take a moment to reflect back on the changes we made to our summer camps. We transitioned from offering morning and afternoon camp sessions for preschool age children to just one session followed by after camp care. We made this transition for several reasons, one being to help parents with school age children to have both preschool and school age children in camp at the same time. This also helps parents with children starting Kindergarten in the fall to prepare them for a full school day. We also created a camp focused on aquatics, which was an opportunity to collaborate with our aquatics team to give children access to swim lessons and play time in the water. We had great feedback from our parents in regards to these transitions. We are so glad that parents are seeing and enjoying the benefits of change!

With all the school supply shopping, orientations, and back to school nights that are coming up, I would like to wish everyone good luck in the upcoming school year! I wish to say thank you, to our patrons and staff, for your ideas and suggestions to better care for the needs of the community. Though summer is ending quickly, I hope you all take a moment to have a bit more fun before the busyness of school begins. Be sure to join us for our end of summer Glow in the Park after Dark event coming up on Saturday, August 18! We’ll have a huge variety of family activities, music, and more!

Thanks for all the fun and memories this summer. See you next year!
