Holly Jolly Holidays at MPCC – by Kaitlyn Collier

Is it just me or has November flown by in the blink of an eye? The Christmas music is on the radio, and Thanksgiving is here (YUM)! Now, it’s time to start getting into the holiday spirit, and we have the perfect way for you to do it. The first few weeks of December are filled with opportunities for you and your family to make the most out of the holidays.

Last year we had our first Annual Tree Lighting, which immediately followed the Light Parade. Thanks to all who made it a success, it is now its own standalone event! We will have everything you need to make the night memorable, including activities and crafts for the kids, holiday themed entertainment, light refreshments, and (don’t tell him I told you) but the Big Guy from the North Pole is even expected to make an appearance to help us light the tree on December 2nd!

The Tree Lighting kicks off the holiday season in the best way, but it doesn’t stop there! We’ve got plenty more events to keep your spirits bright. Why not come to the Community Center and join in on the Dough Ornament Workshop (11/30) and the Gingerbread House Workshop (12/7)? You’ll be able to make some great decorations for your home and tree! All of these events lead up to the Manassas Park staple event, the 2017 Annual Light Parade on December 9th! The parade route runs right through the middle of Manassas Park. Find a spot along Manassas Drive, and you will have the best spot to see the entire parade! Vehicles come from all over the area, covered in twinkling lights and other Christmas decorations to really light up the night. This unique holiday parade is not one to miss, and, if it isn’t already, it will be a family favorite!

The grand finale of the Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation’s holiday events is a festive morning event filled with the most delicious food – that’s right it’s Breakfast with Santa. This event combines the best aspects of the holidays! There will be games, crafts, and activities for the kids, not to mention a delicious breakfast spread the whole family will love. Then Santa will arrive for you to get the perfect family photo to finish off your breakfast! Be certain the kids don’t forget their wish list at home, as they will get the opportunity to tell Santa exactly what they want for Christmas this year! This event will definitely be one the whole family will enjoy, so be certain to mark your calendars for December 16th!

With so many fun holiday themed special events coming up in December, I hope you’ll join us at the Manassas Park Community Center for lots of good cheer with your neighbors.
