Thank you to all of our volunteers! We are very fortunate to have so many people who want to give back to the community. We would not be able to do what we do without those who give so much time and effort by sharing their talent and passion with others.
We had the pleasure of hosting our third annual Volunteer Banquet on Friday, May 17. It was a small gesture to show our appreciation to our volunteers. The Volunteer Banquet began as an idea from our Athletics Recreation Specialist, Mike Arrington, to honor and say thank you to all of those that supported the Manassas Park Youth Basketball League. It has since grown into an event recognizing all volunteers who help out different divisions such as Athletics, Preschool, Teens, Therapeutic, and Seniors.
Over the years, there have been some changes made to create a more formal and enriching evening. This year, we invited Mary Foley, Executive Director of Volunteer Prince William, as our guest speaker, as well as City Manager Lazlo Palko and Vice Mayor Preston Banks. Ms. Foley spoke about community togetherness, connections, and the importance of being involved. She also talked about giving back and looking out for one another and the impact it has on the lives of others. We presented a slide show highlighting some of our volunteers in action of their giving.
Again, a big thanks to Mike Arrington for coming up with idea and for inviting the Recreation Services team to share in the wonderful and exciting event. We have received great feedback regarding the evening and look forward to honoring more volunteers in the future. If you are interested in collaborating or joining an amazing, dedicated, and passionate group of volunteers, please feel free to contact us and share your ideas and passion with us.
Thank you again to all who made this evening possible – they truly make a difference!
