Reflection and Improvements – by Kaitlyn Collier

The Staff here at Manassas Park Community Center has been reviewing the results of the 2016 (Department of Parks and Recreation) DPR Survey. Staff asked patrons to assess our facilities and programs over the course of last year. After looking through the survey results, we feel we are better able to understand the needs of our patrons, and to consider improvements based on the feedback we received.  This process was really eye opening to me. I truly appreciated being able to hear what our patrons would like from us and what they already love.

As I began to think about how to use the survey feedback, I realized how many programs the Community Center promotes to help our patrons improve their daily lives. Sometimes improvements to your life does not necessarily entail “fixing” something you are currently doing. Sometimes it is as simple as learning a new skill, being active for your health, or actively engaging with your family or friends.

If you were looking to take a new class or maybe work out with a personal trainer, wouldn’t it make sense to have as much fun as possible?  Well, that is exactly what we offer here at the Community Center – the chance to have fun while learning something new.

Maybe you would like to learn about a different culture. Why not learn a new language? We offer Korean and Spanish classes! Alternatively, perhaps you would like to improve your overall health, but are not quite sure where to start and the treadmill has never been that appealing. There are several group exercise classes here at the Community Center. We have Zumba, Kickboxing, Yoga, and Aqua Zumba! If you are looking to spend some quality family time together, attend one of our family-themed special events! We have the Kite Festival, Father Daughter Dance, Ice Cream Social, and some more awesome summer events for the whole family to enjoy!

For the past month, my life at work and at home has been all about reflection and self-improvement. I do this a few times a year to self-evaluate. It is easy to see where I am today, but I use this reflection to set goals for myself. Until this past week, I never truly realized just how many aspects of my life involve me continuously reflecting and making improvements.

When I think of improvement I think of any time I am adding positive things into my life that help me grow in some way or another. I hope the programs we offer here at the Manassas Park Community Center are exactly what you need for your own self-improvement journey, and I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. You never know what you may find you love doing!
