Senior Happenings – by Sue Jurjevic

We are halfway through the year! We have had some very exciting and fun times thus far. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the fun events, and I look forward to so many more this year. Please be sure to check our senior board for updates of events and activities. Our board is located behind the front desk and contains all the information you need about upcoming senior events!

One of our oldest and most successful programs here at the Community Center is our weekly Senior Social, in which we do crafts, play bingo, watch movies, and enjoy delicious food. We participated in an Escape Room last week where we had to solve puzzles and find clues to solve the mystery and “escape” the room. We also have bi-monthly potlucks with guest speakers from AARP, room organizers, and downsizing professionals! Being social is important for people of all ages!

Senior Yoga, which meets on Mondays, has become increasingly popular as well. Our Senior Strength and Stretch class meets on Wednesdays, and it is a great way to get a relaxing workout while focusing on flexibility. Both classes have been well attended and enjoyed by participants. We have moved Strength and Stretch to the gym a few times due to the overwhelming attendance!

We have also been on the road lately! We took a trip to the Riverside Dinner Theater in Fredericksburg to see Sally Struthers in “Always Patsy Cline.” The Dinner Theater is one of our favorite places to visit. It offers a great day with friends, food, and entertainment.

We strive to provide a variety of activities to meet your interests. We offer photography help in our Shutterbug group. For those who love board games, we have Puzzle Mania, Scrabble Club, and our popular Bored-um Busters, which gives participants a wide variety of games to play! If you enjoy working on hands-on activities, we offer social crocheting and plarning!

We encourage you to stay tuned and keep an eye on the board for more activities to come. Be sure to contact me if you have any questions or ideas for activities, potlucks, or guest speakers! I look forward to hearing from you!

Sounds like a lot of great activities for seniors, of which I am one, so would like to start participating in some of them. Thank you.

Thank you for providing programs geared for seniors. I was wondering if there are plans to add tai chi any time soon? It’s a great way to relax and build balance skills. Thank you 👍🏿
