Our member spotlight blog series features a Manassas Park Community Center member and their family. We hope that by sharing member stories we continue to work towards building an environment that embraces community.

Maya and her family have been members of the Community Center for a few years now, and since then has been part of a variety of events and programs. Maya even teaches classes here! She teaches PASOS, Spanish, and Hairstyle How-to. In this Member Spotlight, she shares with us a bit about her experience.

How long have you lived in the area?

We have lived in Manassas Park since 2012. We lived in Centreville for a year as well, but before that, we lived in Korea for two years. My daughter was actually born there!

How did you hear about the Community Center?

I work for Manassas Park City Schools, so I first heard about the Center’s employee benefits and decided to check it out. We asked the front desk staff about other programs offered and found out that you offer a huge selection of programs!

What made you decide to get the All Access Passport?

I used the employee membership for a while, but my mom actually enrolled my daughter into the breakdancing class, and after seeing how much she enjoyed it, we decided to become All Access members! It definitely offers the best value for families looking to be involved in different activities.

You mentioned breakdancing. What other activities do you and your family enjoy?

My kids have participated in so many programs, but the ones that stand out the most are the piano lessons. As for me, Kids Korner is definitely the biggest perk of the membership. It lets me enjoy Zumba while my kids are having fun with their friends! The monthly specials that you offer for personal training are also a big plus.

Maya and her family were also part of our styled shoot for Signal Bay Waterpark

Do you participate in our special events?

This year, we peeked into the Fall Festival after swim practice and ended up staying for three hours! My kids loved the bouncy castle and I spoiled myself to a few things at the show. I’ve also been part of the annual yard sales as a vendor and a shopper.

What program or event do you look forward to the most?

My family likes making unique plans during holidays, so we’re often out of town for holiday events. I love Mother’s Day Tea and the See Global, Stay Local event. I love multicultural events, especially when there’s food!

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

My family loves Chinese food, and Hunan Star is always a favorite. What makes it better is that Betty and Marie’s ice cream shop is in the same shopping center. Dinner and dessert so close to each other is a big bonus!

What would you say to someone who has never visited us?

I always talk about the Community Center. I tell people to simply come and see what’s offered. There really is something for everyone. It’s worth a try!
